Post Op Days
I spent almost 3 days in
the hospital. We went back to the hotel
late on Saturday.
I had my liquid and protein for the day. But did
not get up to the required
amount. There was still some pain from the
surgery but it was good
to get a full nights sleep. Monday I pretty much stayed in
bed all day, I was really
nauseated and had even more trouble getting
everything down.
But no vomiting. Finally early that evening I realized
I had some Reglan for nausea,
so I took that, and it helped. Unfortunately
it kept me awake all night,
as well. Monday morning I felt better, so we
ventured out to Fisherman's
Wharf so David could have some lunch. This was a test
for me. I love to
go to SF and eating at Fisherman's Wharf is one of the reasons.
So I made myself a bottle
of Crystal Lite and headed out. You may
not believe it but the
smells, which are incredible, were enough to
satisfy me. We walked
around for over 3 hours and headed back
to the hotel. I was
pretty tired, but managed to pack up for
our return flight.
The next morning we had to be up at 4:00am to
get out to the airport.
I must say the trip home was the
worst part of the entire
process. We took a taxi to the airport and
got checked through easily
enough, but the flight was just awful.
Airplane seats aren't comfortable
under any circumstances but being
cramped into that seat
for 5 hours with 6 incisions in your adbomen is
almost unbearable. I was
supposed to walk around as much as
I could, but the flight
was full and the carts were going
up and down the aisles
almost all the time. By the last hour
of the trip I was in pain,
nauseated, and having trouble breathing.
I was so glad to get out
of there. One more short flight
from Honolulu to Hilo and
we were on our way home.
I have never been so happy
to be home in my life.
I had survived and now
it was time to start a new
way of life.
